In addition to high quality outpatient imaging, OMI is involved with a number of research projects through it's PET-CT Centre. In conjunction with Professor Ralph Martins of the McCusker Foundation, OMI is able to offer PET imaging for the investigation and research of Alzheimer's Disease. To see a recent publication in the Lancet Medical Journal, click on the PDF below. New lexicon and criteria for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease
In association with Professor Harvey Turner, OMI is also involved with research into GISTs, trying to identify which patients are more likely to have chemotherapy sensitive tumours.
Having the ability to perform cardiac PET-CT scans means that OMI is able to help diagnose hibernating myocardium in patients with coronary artery disease. Dr Nat Lenzo, one of the Directors of OMI, is very much involved in looking at the diagnostic value of Nuclear Medicine in cardiac imaging. We have also worked with A/Prof Christopher Beer looking at cerebrovascular disease. To see the research paper, please click on the link below. |
